You can now apply for a Visitor Visa using Form 1419. This visa is primarily for visiting friends and family, and it can also be used for tourism or cruise travel.
However, it cannot be used for business purposes or medical treatment. It may be used for training programs lasting less than three months. If the main purpose of your visit is study, it is recommended to apply for a student visa instead.
Please note that this visa does not permit you to work in Australia.
Cruise
If Australia is included in your cruise itinerary, you will need a Visitor Visa for Australia. For round-trip cruises, the time you spend in Australian waters will be counted as part of your stay in Australia.
Before embarking on your cruise, it is recommended to confirm with the cruise operator whether your cruise will be considered a round-trip cruise by Australian authorities.
The duration of your stay
The Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) is a temporary visa, and you can stay in Australia only for the dates specified on your visa. The duration granted depends on several factors, including the length of stay requested and the purpose of your visit.
You should be prepared for the possibility that your actual stay may be shorter than requested. The visa may allow single or multiple entries:
Single-entry: You can enter Australia only once.
Multiple-entry: You can leave and re-enter Australia multiple times until the visa expires.
This visa generally does not allow you to stay in Australia for more than 12 months within an 18-month period. If you need to stay longer, you must demonstrate special circumstances justifying the extended stay.
These conditions also apply to holders of the Working Holiday visa, Work and Holiday visa, and bridging visas.
Other conditions of the Visitor Visa
The Tourist Stream Visa cannot be extended. If you wish to stay in Australia longer, you will need to apply for a new visa.
Additionally, you cannot include family members in the same application. Each family member who wishes to travel with you must submit a separate visa application.
